 About US (Washington DC chapter)

The formation of Ogbomoso Parapo, Washington, DC Chapter (OPDC) was first conceived in the summer of 1971, as a result of discussion among Ogbomoso sons and daughters living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  They immigrated to the United States from different parts of Nigeria and Ghana.  Some knew each other from their former places of abode while others met each other for the first time in the US. Some were born and raised in Ogbomoso and some were not.  Many of the founding members grew up in cities where Ogbomoso Parapo was already in existence as a forum to bring all Ogbomoso indigenes living in those cities together in order to form a common bond.   However, the common denominator among the founding members is their love of OGBOMOSOLAND.

After many months of laying the groundwork, which included recruitment of members by word of mouth, Ogbomoso Parapo was officially launched as a social organization in the summer of 1974.  Ogbomoso Parapo is incorporated as a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia.

Ogbomoso Parapo is a social organization with no association with any political entity in the United States of America or Nigeria.

Ogbomoso Parapo, Washington DC Chapter is one of the first Yoruba ethnic organizations formed in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
